Stolen medicine lands Zimbabwe woman in court

The state alleges that Netsai Chinyembere was found with the medicine at Somerset East Location on January 11 this year.

Chinyembere pleaded guilty to the charge when she appeared before Principal Magistrate Dumisani Basupi after Inspector Semakaleng Mazibane applied that charges be read to her and her plea taken.

Mazibane also applied for the accused to be remanded. She called the investigating officer to tell the court why the accused should not be granted bail.

The investigating officer told the court that he came to know the accused after a case of stealing by servant had been opened against an employee of Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.

He said he arrested Chinyembere at her rented house at Somerset East and found some medicine in her possession.

“Although the accused has a passport, she entered the country through an illegal point of entry.

“It shows that she may escape back to Zimbabwe if granted bail.

“Also our investigations are still continuing to recover all the stolen medicine,” said the investigating officer, who added that granting Chinyembere bail would be permitting her to prolong her illegal stay in the country.

At the end of the mention Basupi refused to grant Chinyembere bail because she entered the country illegally.

Basupi said: “It is risky to grant the accused bail because if she has the propensity of entering the country illegally, there is nothing that may stop her from returning to Zimbabwe illegally again”.

Facts of the case will be read to the accused on Friday.
