Ex-Pirates coach frontrunner for Zebras job

Indications are that the former Orlando Pirates coach, who is reportedly unhappy in Uganda, has put in his application for the Zebras' job, while a new TD will be unveiled next week. He resumes his duties in February.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) are in search of a replacement for Stanley Tshosane who was fired from the job late last year.

BFA president, Tebogo Sebego said they were waiting for the applications deadline before making their decision. He, however, said by March's FIFA international date, they would have appointed the new man.

'We are waiting for deadline; we will move fast once we have all the applications. We meet the NEC on Friday to get direction from them so we can close as soon as possible,' Sebego told Mmegi Sport. He added they were targeting the FIFA date in March for their new man to have a look at his players in a friendly encounter.

'We will close, I'm crossing my fingers we don't have problems with notice and all that. We are now preparing for 2015 and intend to utilise all FIFA dates,' he said.

A source said Sredjovic was keen to come to southern Africa with Uganda said to be struggling to shell out his dues consistently.

BFA recently profiled the person they want for the national team job and Sredjovic seems to fit the bill.

Other coaches who are interested in the job include Kenya's Adel Amrouche. Former coach Colwyn Rowe was also linked with the job.

Sebego has previously admitted to admiring the Serbian coach, Sredjovic, but stressed they were also looking at the other candidates.

Sredjovic recently told Mmegi Sport his focus was the CHAN competition that is currently ongoing in South Africa. He led Uganda to a win in their first game 2-0 against Burkina Faso in Cape Town, South Africa.

Sebego was in Cape Town for the opening game, but is back in the country.
