Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) spokesperson public Keenese Katisenge told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they were hosting Karlovitch with the assistance of the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
She said that the Ukranian is a role model to a lot of young girls in chess. Karlovitch became a Woman International Master (WIM) in 2000 and proceeded to be a Woman Grand Master (WGM) in 2003.
Katisenge said Karlovitch remained one of the strongest chess players in the World. She started playing chess at the age of nine. She said the player was involved in mentoring and grooming young chess players.
'The aim of the visit is to inspire and motivate young girls in Botswana, with the main focus on their attraction and retention in sports.
She will be here to launch the BCF Women's Commission as per the federation's new constitution and also launch BCF's 2014 calendar of events,' she said.During her visit, Karlovitch will engage in a chess display with a selected number of young chess players from around the country.
Katisenge said local Woman Grand Master Tuduetso Sabure, women International Masters, Boikhutso Mudongo and Tshipiso Lopang would join the player in the display.
Katisenge said Karlovitch's visit is evidence of the growth in the game and how the world views Botswana chess.
During the month of January, BCF will have Re ba bona ha (RBBH) centres and schools committee meeting in Gaborone and also host Airfficiency year opener tournament next week.
