Japan Prime Minister visits Africa

Prime Minister Abe will arrive in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire in the afternoon of Friday 10th, where he will have a summit meeting with President Alassane Ouattara, followed by a joint press conference.

On the morning of Saturday 11th, the Prime Minister will visit a women’s job training centre (Centre Marie Eugenie), following which he will depart from the Ivory Coast, and arriving in the evening of the same day in Maputo, Mozambique. 

In the morning of Sunday 12th, Prime Minister Abe will have a Summit Meeting with President Armando Guebuza.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Prime Minister will give a speech at a Business Forum, after which he will meet with local Japanese development cooperation volunteers. Prime Minister Abe will depart from Mozambique on the morning of Monday 13th and arrive in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in the afternoon of the same day.

There he will hold a summit meeting, followed by a joint press conference. In the morning of Tuesday 14th the Prime Minister will pay courtesy calls on President Mulatu Teshome, as well as the African Union Commission Chairperson, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.  Prime Minister Abe will depart from Addis Ababa in the afternoon of the same day for Tokyo.

 In view of Tokyo’s recent successful bid to host the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, Prime Minister Abe’s visit will have a sports element.

In Cote d’Ivoire, he will grace a judo tournament, which has been dubbed the “Abe Cup”. In Mozambique, he will meet with the Women’s Basketball Team. In Ethiopia, the Prime Minister will meet with the son of Abebe Bikila, two-time Olympic marathon champion, as well as other athletes. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to give a policy speech in Ethiopia.
