Speaking to Showbiz yesterday, his new manager, Molefi Nkwete was happy to share that Drama Boi’s music is being appreciated a lot.
He pointed out that ever since his latest album Wa Makeishane hit shelves last year on November 30.
They have managed to sell over 700 copies in three weeks.
“The reception we have been getting has been phenomenal and very amazing. He is now getting a new audience and is attracting a different clientele from what we are used to,” he said.
The album was cooked at Rock The City Music record label in association with Mafia Soul. It has 14 tracks and Nkwete describes it as ‘diverse’.
“When we made this album we wanted to keep in mind Drama Boi’s main core audience, which are the people in townships that it is why we ended up calling it Wa Makeishane,” he said.
Nkwete added that a lot of people thought Drama Boi would change his style of rapping, but this has proven to be wrong.
“People thought that since Mafia Soul is associated with glamour and style then Drama Boi will be put under pressure to rap also in that style, but he is still the same artist that Batswana love,” he said.
Songs that are currently making the favourite list are Candy, Utlwa and Roma Nna.
“All these songs carry different messages, Roma Nna is about hard work and how hard work pays, Utlwa is about having fun and it is a party song as well as Candy,” he said.
The album features other talented producers and one of the Women of Jazz, Nnunu Ramogotsi on a song called A Reyeng, which is produced by Tshepo Lesole.
Nkwete mentioned that they would be touring the country in an attempt to bring him closer to his fans that stay in far places.
He said that they are not only building Drama Boi’s brand in the music industry, but also outside music.
“We are also trying to penetrate other countries in Africa, especially South Africa. He has also worked with a producer in SA who used to work with successful artists like Jub Jub,” he said.
The future looks bright for the crooner, as his clothing line will soon be launched this year.
Nkwete also revealed that people should also look out for his upcoming comic book and entertainment company.
