BRU entered into a partnership with Horizon Ogilvy last year with the agreement that the company should sell the game to Batswana.
BRU president Bob Lekan said the partnership that has been running for about eight months now has helped them realise things that they did not know about the game.
“We knew that our game is less appreciated but research done by Horizon revealed that the situation was actually worse than we thought,” he told Mmegi Sport.
He said from the interviews with potential sponsors they realised the need to package rugby as a brand. “We need to know why rugby is not known among Batswana despite the media coverage it gets,” he said.
He said in the interviews that were conducted some interviewees were actually discovering for the first time that the sport was played locally.
“We need to know if this is just ignorance or that we have not been doing something right,” he said.
