BDP may hold primaries for F/town West

The Francistown West by-election, which the BDP is presently barred from contesting, will be on January 25.

BDP secretary general Mpho Balopi told Mmegi yesterday that they are waiting for the outcome of the two cases before the Court of Appeal and if they lose both appeals then they would be forced to go for another run of the primaries in the constituency.

'If BDP is not going to be represented in the coming by-election then it automatically calls for primaries because discretion only apply for those who had contested for by-election. Failing which the party has to go for another primary,' he said.  Whyte Marobela, the man who after losing the first run last year to Ignatius Moswaane, challenged the process in court and won, said he was shocked by the BDP decision on the matter. He said BDP had not communicated the decision to the contestants but would be ready to act once properly informed.

What is not clear is whether BDP will bow to the Court decision to listen to Marobela's case or not. Efforts to reach Moswaane proved futile.
