Speaking at the mine’s end of year party recently Steshenko said: “We do a lot of direct and indirect business with a good number of companies in and around Francistown that contribute to employment creation.
Besides business, we are also partnering with government in the development of the lives of Batswana through our corporate social responsibility programme.”
He said that their efforts have been geared towards education, health, support of charitable organisations and village development committee structures, to name but a few. He said the initiatives are in consonance with their slogan, Tati Nickel Cares.
Steshenko said the future of TNMC and the economy of Francistown and surrounding areas depends on all employees of the miner.
He urged TNMC employees to increase their productivity in order for the company to achieve its intended goals.
On other issues, Steshenko said the past four to five years have been bumpy mainly because of the global economic slowdown that continues to hurt the mine.
“The unstable and low metal prices continue to affect our profit margins and the situation is not helped by the declining ore grades at our mine.
“The persisting global economic recession and the declining ore grades at our mine are unfortunately variables that we do not control. As much as we do not have control over the aforesaid variables, we have been able to survive because of the ABC Strategy that we implemented in May 2013.
We can safely say that mining at Phoenix site will continue until the end of 2015,” said Steshenko.
