Khama Guest of Honour at Kenya's 50th Independence celebrations

Khama is travelling at the at the invitation of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta whose father, Jomo Kenyatta five decades ago in 1964 invited Ian Khama’s father, Sir Seretse Khama to be the Guest of Honour at Kenya’s first anniversary of Independence.

The Republic of Kenya became independent on the 12th December 1963.

The press statement says “Khama will be accompanied by the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mokgweetsi Masisi, and senior officials. His delegation is expected to return home tomorrow.”
