Prosecutor Rodger Bosena told the court that investigations into the matter are complete and the state will call five witnesses to prove its case.
Sladden pleaded not guilty to the offence and said that he will conduct his own defence.
The court heard that police recently arrested the accused after he went on the run following the alleged committal of the offence. Sladden is out on bail.
He will appear in court on March 31, 2014. His trial date has been set for September 14, 2014. Meanwhile, a 28-year old Zimbabwean man appeared before Magistrate Sijabuliso Siziba to face a single count of unlawful wounding. The state alleges that Simbarashe Makhwande of Masvingo village stabbed Constance Sebolao on her chest and shoulder using a sharp object on November 26, 2013 at Molapo Estates here.
Prosecutor Alexander Phale opposed the accused’s application for bail.
He said: “The complainant is in the Intensive Care Unit at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital in serious condition. Her condition may change, and we apply for the accused to be further remanded in custody.”
Makhwande denied having stabbed Sebolao. He said he was caught by two people while walking in the river who then took him to the police and then claimed that he committed the offence.
Siziba remanded Makhwande in custody. He will appear in court on December 17, 2013 for another mention.
