Zahara, Team Distant to grace Mascom Live Sessions

Despite her new album Phendula failing to ignite the same excitement as her debut Loliwe, Zahara still remains an attractive crowd-puller to promoters. The Eastern Cape-born musician will be making her second appearance at the popular venue after her impressive showing last year.

Unlike their South African counterpart, Team Distant will be performing for the first time at the popular event. The emerging group has been steadily building a reputation locally through their high-charged performances that combine drums, playing loops and vocals.

Other local acts that have featured include rising jazz stars Kearoma Rantao, Nnunu Ramogotsi, Kabo Leburu, veterans Ndingo Johwa, the late folklore guitarist Stampore, Lister Boleseng and Gaborone Jazz Collective among others. International artists who have graced the previous editions include Salif Keita and Hugh Masekela.

The organisers have mixed international acts with reputable locals to make the event an important part of the local entertainment calendar. The December 13 run of performances at the Mascom Live Sessions will include acts from Swedish jazz star Anna Christoffersson, Soweto String Quartet, Zimbabwean guitar maestro and vocalist Oliver Mtukudzi, Dyer Tribe, Freshlyground, Lira, African Jazz Pioneers and Flash Republic.

Appreciated by many for being a well-organised live event, the Mascom Live Sessions is now one of the most popular concerts in the local entertainment calendar.  Tickets for the show are on sale at P250.
