Raditlhokwa also cited other possible reasons as to why men flee when baby comes into the picture. When a woman falls pregnant, he says, such men leave because they are hit with a realisation that they do not love their partners. He observes that a man can stay in a relationship with one woman for years just for the sex while he has the other as a marriage prospect.
'This is a worrisome (but) growing trend in Botswana and it is time parents learn to teach their boy-children to respect women and learn to face their responsibilities at a tender age because the majority of men do not value love,' says Raditlhokwa.
He says that most men leave when a women gets pregnant, because they are not sure if the child is theirs.
'Of recent in Gaborone, a majority of men have been doing paternity tests to see if indeed the child is theirs before they start supporting it,' he says.
Raditlhokwa also says that men should understand that God created them to be heads of families, to protect their partners and their offspring.
'Men should know their roles in society. Those who run away when their partners are pregnant are not real men. Real men always face their actions even in hard times,' he says.
He adds that girl-children have to be taught how to respect themselves and their bodies so that men do not play with their feelings.
'Pregnant women experience huge physical, hormonal and emotional changes. A strong man is able to deal with such situations whilst weak men pull off from the relationship. Most men come back when the child has grown up and want the relationship back,' he says.
Men experience spiritual attacks, he says, which make them reject their partners and start bed-hopping.
'These type of men need spiritual healing as it is the work of the devil,' he says.
