Serema told The Monitor that the clip was sent to him by a friend, and added that its popularity has been overwhelming.
Serema says he has shared only three videos online, but this one has been of great interest to many, adding that the video is only available on Facebook. Saturday afternoon the clip, shared to 23 people, had received 41 likes, 116 people, attracting 103 comments, had shared the video clip in which Masisi boasts about being lelope and le latswa thipa, loosely translated as a bootlicker. Masisi's clip was taken at a culture day celebration in Thamaga. The Facebook hit has divided opinion with some saying bootlicking pays while critics accuse the minister of seemingly promoting immoral behavior that indicates sucking up to the powers that be, for a reward.
In the 0.54 seconds clip Masisi talks about bolope and bolatswathipa with a very serious face, using strong intonations to stress his point home as old women are heard ululating to his confessions, as if they concur with him.
In the clip Masisi goes thus: Re teng malatswa thipa a lona (we are alive and well, us the bootlickers) ... nna ga ke latswe thipa hela ko Domkrag le ko pusong (I'm not only bootlicking at Domkrag), ke e latswa ko kgosing (I also bootlick royals)... ke a e latswa ... (I bootlick, of course) ga ke itse gore fa o sa e latswe o ikantseng, o a ga mang (I wonder where your future lies if you are not a bootlicker, who is going to save you!). (ululations in the background)... ke ngwana wa lelope (I am the son of a bootlicker), (crowd laughs in the background). Ke ngwana wa lelope (I am the son of a bootlicker (he repeats for emphasis) ... ke ngwana a ngwana a lelope (I am the grandson of a bootlicker.) Le nna ke ja boswa (this is my inheritance).
Ga ke boje ka maemo hela, ke lelope (I have not only inherited my predecessors' powers, I have also inherited the bootlicking) ... Ga le bona ke tsile ko kgosing jaana ke tsile go lopela (I am here at the chief's kgotla for bootlicking)...kgosi e a lopelwa (we have the duty to bootlick a chief)
Asked for his reaction to the Facebook clip, Minister Masisi on Saturday said he was only learning about it from The Monitor. ' I don't really care, look, this is a democracy, everyone is free to comment as they wish, I have no hard feelings', Masisi said.
