'I am really excited about this because they have actually made me the headline act and obviously a lot is expected from me. I am ready to do my best and make sure I live to expectations. I also see this as an opportunity to market my music and sell my country to the world because I am told there will be representatives from the American Embassy,' Slizer told Showbiz.
She leaves for Blantyre on Friday for the event together with her dancers though she will only take to the stage on the final day. This will be her second public performance since the birth of her son. The first was in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe last month to celebrate Tourism Day.
'I have performed once since the birth of my son and that was in Zimbabwe,' she said.
Prior to the Victoria Falls event, Slizer had been inactive because of pregnancy and the birth of her son four months ago.
The Blantyre event is in its fourth year running after being founded in 2009. The event is aimed at unifying Malawian arts and culture through interactive capacity building events that lead to their artistic liberation and socio-economic empowerment.
Programmes manager for Blantyre Arts Festival, Thoko Tembo said they had lined up a number of local and international performers for the event. Every year, the organisers find professional arts practitioners to conduct workshops in various arts fields including theatre, photography, poetry, visual arts and music. Slizer believes she will benefit from the workshops to be held for artists for free at all the venues of the Blantyre Arts Festival activities.
'The workshops are in cultural management, arts marketing, arts administration, networking in order to improve the artists professional skills,' she said.
Straight after her Malawi date, Slizer is set to travel to Zimbabwe for the late Tongai Moyo's commemoration.
