BHC investment in Palapye tops P50 million

Speaking in an interview this week, Seisa said the property-developing corporation with the motto: 'Accommodating your future' is committed to housing the nation.

BHC's presence was first felt in the fast urbanising Palapye in the early 1980s when 309 plots were secured and developed. These BHC houses are now commonly known as 'matlo a power' or BPC houses.

In 1998, BHC was allocated 398 plots by the Palapye Sub Land Board at Extension Four in the village. The first phase of the 398 plots comprised 150 low to medium cost houses, which were completed in 2004.

Seisa said that BHC's presence was further felt in the second phase of the development when about 35 houses were specifically built for the Morupule Colliery Limited mine.

'This Monday, we launched phase three of the 398 plots which comprises  53 houses which were completed last year at a cost of about P12.7 million,' explained Seisa who added that the houses were medium to high cost houses.

BHC Chief Executive Officer, Reginald Motswaiso, conducted a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for phase four of the projects in Palapye in which about 71 low to medium cost houses will be constructed.

Phase five and the last lap of the 398 plots is envisaged to commence in the next financial year and the property developer will build 89 mixed houses.

The houses continue to change the complexion of Palapye infrastructure and the residents have benefited immensely through employment and other means.

Serowe-Palapye Assistant Council Secretary, Nelson Molepolole, recently urged civic leaders to advocate for Palapye to be upgraded into a township to enable the residents to enjoy other benefits.

During the Monday ceremony, Palapye MP Boyce Sebetela, encouraged the BHC to explore the need of working closely with stakeholders in Palapye to acquire more land and provide more houses.

Sebetela's main target is the provision of houses for the planned second university in Palapye.
