Khama set to move into State House

Private Secretary at State House Tefo Mokaila said yesterday that renovations were expected to be completed by December, but there were delays caused by different factors including bad weather. 'We had anticipated that State House would be ready by December, but we haven't been able to achieve that.  Rain is also contributing to the delay,' he said.

Mokaila revealed that construction is at 70 percent and hoped everything will be completed by March. He added that the contractor - Somac - is working on final touches to the State House, which 'is normally the slowest part of construction'.  'The president will be moving in as soon as the house is ready for occupation,' he said.

He said that the construction is still within its initial budget of P8.9million.

The refurbishment started early last year after former President Festus Mogae moved to his retirement home in Phakalane Golf Estate.

Meanwhile, Vice President Mompati Merafhe is staying in his ministerial house and will also move into the VP's official residence when his boss moves to State House.
