Peermont reopens casinos after takeover

A press release from the hospitality group stated that the casinos opened for business on December 2, 2007. The Regional Chief Operating Officer of Peermont (Botswana), Bruce Page-Wood, said in the statement that both casinos have been renamed after buying them from Admiral Casinos last July.

The Francistown casino has been renamed Sedibeng Casino, while the one in Selebi-Phikwe has been renamed Syringa Casino.

Sedibeng Casino is located at Thapama Hotel while the Syringa Casino is situated in the Syringa Lodge.

'Thanks to the purchase and subsequent refurbishment of both casinos, Peermont has been able to give back to the communities in which the casinos operate through job creation and upliftment of the surroundings,' says the statement.

'Exciting new gaming machines, beautifully refurbished interiors and convenient locations make both casinos a perfect entertainment venue,' Page-Wood said. Peermont said the casinos' new names were chosen for their relevance to the areas in which each is situated.

Sedibeng means 'natural water source', which in this case is the Tati River - a very important part of Francistown. Syringa is the name of the hotel in which the casino is situated, as well as a link to the great Syringa tree that grows right in front of the casino. The Sedibeng Casino has 50 slot machines while the Syringa has 30, increasing the total number of slot machines operated by Peermont in Botswana to 220. Denominations at both casinos range from 1 Thebe to 1 Pula, with a good mix of traditional reel and multi-line video products. Both casinos are cashless, which provides significant benefits to both casino and guest.

Said Page-Wood: 'A major advantage with these machines is that there are no hopper fills or jams that lock up the machine, so guests never have to wait. It is very simple to move from one denomination to the next without first having to get a different token, which is a real plus.
