Zeus to launch The Flipside

Fans get a chance to sample songs off the album at the official launch, on December 18 at Bull & Bush from 9pm until late.

This launch party will feature a performance from Zeus as well as South African born, Mmabatho bred and fellow Channel O winner, (Best New Comer) Khuli Chana who needs no introduction as a musician that practises the skill of rhyming in vernacular rap, Motswako.

Khuli Chana has been in the music industry since the early 90s. Morafe presents us with his 1st solo offering titled 'The Motswako originator'.

In addition to live performances by Zeus and Khuli Chana on the line up for entertainment is Mr O, Khenzo, Oneal and Kuchi.

This event will be followed with an autograph signing session by both Zeus and Khuli Chana at Mafia Soul, Riverwalk on Saturday 10am - 1pm.

As a sign of things to come, singles of the 16-track album, The Flipside, has been on heavy rotation in Botswana, South Africa and Namibia.

A little over a month ago, in the presence of Africa and the world, Zeus won the coveted Best Hip-hop Video award at the Channel O Awards for The Freshly Baked track, Gijima.

According to the rapper, despite all the good buzz he has received over the years, the real victory is the fact that people can now get a chance to buy an album of his.

'After all these years and all the ups and downs it is finally a relief for me, and my fans, to finally have a product on mainstream shelves; which is something that I've never had before,' said Zeus.

Produced by the likes of Octave Couplet, Ross, PH, AB Crazy and Mr. Bannerman, the album is a coming of age project that sees Zeus at his best tackling real life experiences from love and relationship to black consciousness and Africa's place in today's world.

In line with the times, and an effort to be an all inclusive collection of music, the album has something for lovers of music and can be defined as hip hop for connoisseurs and non-connoisseurs.

'That's why I called it The Flipside. It's like a flip, a switch in mindset; like a change in bearings. If people had gotten a chance to listen to my previous albums they would see that The Flipside represents a lot of growth from those days,' he said.

The Flipside, which is being distributed through Soul Candi Records, has already been released in Mafikeng, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth, cities where the rapper's music has been in huge demand.

The Flipside is scheduled for release on December 18 in Gaborone after many delays resulted in the album being pushed back.

But finally it will be available in Musica Stores, Kgalagadi Music World, Ko Setlhareng.com and Mafia Soul. The project is a partnership between DIY/Rizn Entertainment, Octave couplet and Big Dawg productions.

'Obviously, as one of my majors I am at the helm in terms of trying to shape a strategy which makes sense and is within our limited budget.

We are looking at releases from Cape Town to Windhoek.  Being an independent label we do not have the kind of money and marketing budget to do a major release, so ours will be a soft release,' he said.

The Flipside will be at all Musica and other music outlets in Botswana, South Africa and soon Namibia.

Soul Candi is currently in negotiations with other music distribution outlets to get the album into as many stores and within reach of as many fans as possible.
