Police Murder Victim Laid To Rest

The deceased was shot dead by the Special Support Group (SSG) officer who was in uniform last Monday in Ledumang. The officer was armed with his service rifle. After the murder, he drove away in the police vehicle he came with. It is understood that Sebele is the third woman to be killed by an SSG officer in a month.

Speaking at the funeral service, a grief- stricken deputy paramount chief of the Batlokwa, Michael Gaborone condemned domestic violence, questioning why men always shoot women.  He said it was hard to hear of a case where a woman has shot a man. He wondered why men are always abusing their partners and accused some radio stations of promoting domestic violence.

Gaborone who is related to Sebele, said she has been unlucky in her relationships. The chief advised that when people are facing problems in relationships they should seek help from parents and elders. He appealed to Sebele's family not to hold a grudge against the family of the man who killed her. Gaborone slammed politicians because they believe that chiefs cannot play a role in curbing domestic violence.

The councillor for Ledumang, Dominic Gombulane said it was unfortunate that the incident occurred at a time when the country is commemorating the 16 days activism against gender violence. He made an impassioned plea to men to stop domestic violence.

He said whenever there is a problem, there are social workers who can provide counselling.  'When there is an issue, you should consult them,' said Gombulane.

He advised people not to crowd scenes of crime because they endanger their lives and disrupt police investigations.

Another speaker at the funeral, Rabson Tshwenyego said there is nothing like passion killing. 'You can't kill somebody that you love,' he said. Other speakers described Sebele as somebody who was always contributing to the community.  'She would work the whole night at the home of a family which is grieving,' said one of the neighbours. Tshwenyego said growing up, Sebele was an obidient child.
