Maposa opts for Bay United

Maposa, together with Chiefs' team-mate Pontsho Moloi put pen to paper on Monday afternoon after impressing in a number of pre-season matches for Bay United in Pretoria.

Last week, Soccer Laduma reported that the Zebras' second choice goalkeeper was likely to dump Bay United after Celtic expressed interest in him. However, the 24-year-old shot-stopper finally settled for Bay United coached by compatriot David Bright.

Moloi said from his Port Elizabeth base that they have signed one-year contracts with an option of extension at the end of the season. 'That will depend on how we perform this season. We are happy here, the reception that we got was just overwhelming,' said Moloi, who was said to be outstanding in the friendly matches for Bay United. Bright was recently quoted as saying he will decide whether to sign the duo permanently at the end of the season if they impress.

Chiefs' spokesman, Clifford Mogomotsi said the players left for Bay United and Celtic only came to the picture while they are already in South Africa. 'When they left they were going to Bay United. Celtic only came into the picture while they were already there.

They (Celtic) wanted Noah but you will recall that they had gone for trials at Bay United before so when they returned it was not trials,' Mogomotsi said.

Maposa and Moloi featured for Bay United in pre-season friendly games against SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits and Pretoria University recently.

According to reports, the Zebras' duo gave a good account of themselves.

The two are yet to feature in a competitive match for Bay United as they are yet to be officially registered with the South African Professional Soccer League. Bay United won their season opener 1-0 against Vasco da Gama last Saturday. They play Hanover Park on Sunday. Besides Maposa, the other goalkeepers at Bay United are Sheldon Bartjies and Congolese Tampungu Dikete. Upfront, Moloi will have to tussle with former Orlando Pirates and Jomo Cosmos veteran striker Jimmy Kauleza for a regular place in the team.
