She told Mmegi yesterday that Parliament is completing its business today but that does not mean it will automatically be dissolved. 'It can be dissolved next week, next month or even a few days before the date of elections,' she said.
However, she stated that it is upon President Ian Khama to find a convenient date to dissolve it. Previously, Parliament was dissolved a few days before the elections date.
It is said that Khama is likely to set the elections' date on Saturday, October 24.
1974 - President Sir Seretse Khama dissolved Parliament on August 30 and elections were held on October 26
1979 - Elections held on October 20
1984 - Elections held on September 8
1989 - President Sir Ketumile Masire dissolved Parliament on August 18 and elections were held on November 9
1994 - Parliament dissolved on August 31 and elections held on October 15
1999 - Elections held on October 16
2004 - President Festus Mogae dissolved Parliament on September 3 and elections held on October 30.
NB: Other dates for dissolution of Parliament could not be clarified because of poor record keeping at Parliament.
