The dread-locked player cried bitterly and held his head in shame when Kutlwano overcame Mafolofolo 3-2 in a breath-taking match to book a date with the army side BDF VI in the final this weekend. His teammates gathered around him to comfort him but he was unconsolable. The towering player had reason to cry after his team lost a game they were tipped to win. Mafolofolo started well only to falter when least expected at a decisive stage in the game. Letsholo's team won the first and second sets and looked poised to reach the final. They needed a single victory in the remaining three sets to make sure. They could have achieved the feat in the third set but as fate would have it, Kutlwano recovered to crush Mafolofolo in the three sets to reach the final. The semi-final between the two was no doubt the game of the day. The game started on a high tempo with Mafolofolo the more aggressive. However, the stubborn Kutlwano did not give up and fought to the bitter end. In the decisive fifth and final set, Kutlwano put up a brave fight in a clash that kept spectators on their toes. They won the set 17-15.
The two teams approached the last set with utmost caution and supporters held their breath as the game became more intense with no indication of who will win the decider.
All credit should go to the evergreen Thabo Seitshiro who stood tall to power Kutwlano to the final. His hard spikes proved too hard and fast for Mafolofolo players. He was ably assisted by Temogo Moetse.
A happy Kutlwano coach, Samuel Isaac was held sky-high by players and supporters after the victory. He praised his team for taking his instructions well during the game. He said they did not have to do anything complicated because they had to play their own game. He explained that they raised the tempo as the game progressed. He believed it was experience that worked for his team and they will be more prepared to win the title come Sunday.
In the women's competition, Kutlwano will face Kalavango in the final after walloping bitter rivals, Mafolofolo 3-0 in a one-sided game. Mafolofolo looked ordinary in the clash and failed to do basic things like receiving balls. Kalavango made it to the finals after outclassing BDF VI 3-0 in another semi-final. Winners from both categories will walk away P20,000 richer.
