Fare Thee Well Boboza

It was not a surprise that he eventually donned the national colours, for both the junior and the senior team. He played for the country with pride and as a nation we have lost a true servant. We would like to pay tribute to Boboza for the service he rendered to the nation as a footballer and a soldier. We cannot talk much about his duties at the Botswana Defence Force but rather as a footballer because that is where we interacted with him. He was a gentleman on and off the field.
Boboza may have had a short life but he travelled very far in his football career. His achievements in football is a true testimony that he liked the sport. Like a true soldier, he died with his football boots on. Many of his age mates have long quit the game but he still soldiered on at 35 years. He competed well against his much younger opponents.
Boboza died following a horrific car accident that happened about a month ago. He had been hospitalised since. In recent weeks, another footballer, Sanoto Sanoto lost his life in a car accident. Sanoto played for Township Rollers not too long ago. This is sad for Botswana football. There is no indication that Boboza was in a hurry to hang up his boots any time soon. This country has been robbed of another role model.
We would like to caution all road users to be careful all time when they are on the road. Our greatest enemy on the roads has been cattle. But nowadays speeding is increasingly becoming a problem. Let us drive within the speed limit to avoid accidents. Boboza may have passed on but his spirit will live for many years to come. Fare thee well and may your spirit rest in peace.
