Tribute to Banks Panene

I tell you that even those who are amnesic would hardly forget the excellent job that was done by Banks for 'Popa' when darkness befell us (at Rollers).  That was the time when there was an urgency for us as a team to bounce back to the elite league.

Banks surprised us when he ultimately got us double premier league titles - the Coca Cola Cup and the St. Cup.  BRAVO! Who had done that before, I guess none. He continued with his winning ways and grabbed the Coca Cola Cup with Notwane.  No doubt that is why Rowe eyed him and drafted him for assistance.

This is when something clicked in my mind? Who is Banks? Where does he get all these tricks and magic? I opened the files only to learn that Banks was a Zebras goalkeeper; a Notwane goalkeeper; and due to his shoulder injury, he did not quit soccer, but continued to learn it as a coach. He was under the tutelage of Heintz Marokze, and that is where he got the grip.  I may have a little to write about Banks but I can say he died at the time when we needed his input most, to uplift local soccer.

This is the time when young coaches like Daniel 'Chico Dance' Nare wanted to suckle and learn his tactics.  His death is a terrible blow to us soccer lovers.  May his soul rest in peace.

Rraagwe Kingsley.
