The accident occurred Saturday night around 10:40pm near Matsuke lands, about 20 kilometres from Molepolole. Lekgwapheng Police Station commander, Superintendent Mothosera Busang said both victims were drivers of the vehicles involved in the fatal collision. Although the exact cause of the accident has not yet been established, preliminary indications suggest that one of the drivers may have been attempting to overtake another vehicle.

Police explained the driver fell short as he miscalculated the distance between his and oncoming vehicle, leading to the collision. “The 48-year-old driver of the BMW was a resident of Molepolole, whilst the 49-year-old driver of the Mazda Demio was a Motokwe village native. “When the accident occurred, the BMW was travelling from Letlhakeng, whilst the Mazda Demio was coming from Molepolole,” Busang added.

He said the BMW was carrying two passengers who sustained minor injuries in the collision. They were rushed to Scottish Livingstone Hospital, where they were treated and discharged later that same night. Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
