The incident occurred on Saturday night after the suspect, the victim, and the woman had reportedly spent the night drinking alcohol at a bar in Leshibitse village. Dibete Police Station commander, Superintendent Modisana Seleka, said both men work as herdsmen at cattleposts on the outskirts of Leshibitse. It is alleged that the victim left the bar with the suspect's girlfriend, prompting the suspect to follow them to the victim's house.
“The suspect knocked on the door, but when it was not opened, he forced it open and hit the victim on the head with a sharp object,” Seleka explained. “He then took his girlfriend and left the victim bleeding with a deep cut on the head,” he added.
Seleka said investigations were ongoing to establish the exact object used in the attack, although preliminary indications suggest that a sharp object was involved. The station chief confirmed that the suspect had not yet been arrested, however he expressed optimism that police would locate him soon. “We have not yet arrested him, but we are hopeful that we will soon locate him because he is a known person who also works as a herdsman in the same area,” Seleka said.
