The group, aptly dubbed the BDF Legends, took revellers down memory lane with a six-song performance that showcased their musical prowess, chemistry and enduring passion for music. The concert, held at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB) Auditorium in Mogoditshane, brought together music, unity and philanthropy. Proceeds from the event and pledges were directed towards supporting charitable causes.

The BDF Legends ensemble comprised Frank 'Franco' Lesokwane, retired Major Phale, Warrant Officer Herbert Boatile, Warrant Officer Sebele Morolong, Warrant Officer Lister Boleseng, Soccer Moruakgomo, Makhwengwe Mengwe and Phemelo 'Fresh' Lesokwane. They opened their set with 'A Reyeng Bosoleng', setting the tone for an evening characterised by rich rhythms and impressive instrumental coordination. Legendary jazz saxophonist, Boleseng took the lead with his saxophone, accompanied by Moruakgomo, while retired Major Mengwe and Phale kept the beat on drums. Franco complemented the arrangement on keyboard, while Fresh Lesokwane, Morolong and Boatile contributed vocals, with some members also showcasing their guitar skills.

The musicians demonstrated remarkable synchronisation, blending the sounds of the saxophone, keyboard, guitars and drums into a seamless musical experience. Their performance was a reminder that musical talent does not fade with time, as the former soldiers commanded the stage with confidence and experience. The group saved one of its memorable moments for the finale, closing their set with Franco’s popular old song, 'Moeriko', much to the delight of the audience. The evening also marked a historic milestone for the annual concert, as an ensemble from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) performed at the event for the first time. The visiting musicians treated the audience to eight songs, adding an international dimension to the celebrations.

Beyond the entertainment, the concert remained firmly rooted in its charitable mission. BDF Commander, General Mpho Mophuting presented cheques for P20,000 each to the Botswana Red Cross Society and SOS Children’s Village, as one of the beneficiaries of this year’s fundraising initiative. President Duma Boko and Vice President Ndaba Gaolathe each pledged P10,000, while Minister for State President, Moeti Mohwasa pledged P5,000 towards the charitable cause. The 32nd edition of the BDF Bands in Concert Style will continue with a tour of several areas across Botswana, taking its blend of musical entertainment and community support to audiences around the country.
