Assistant Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Baratiwa Mathoothe, also commended the organisers for the event that provides a platform that recognises poultry farming as a sector. “The expo brings together ideas, capital, technology, markets and people whose collective efforts can help shape the future of an important part of our economy,” he said when delivering his remarks. The seventh edition of the Tholo Holdings Poultry Expo 2026, which took place from October 15 to17, highlighted the poultry industry’s potential to contribute to Botswana’s economic diversification, employment creation and business development.
Held under the theme, ‘From farm to fork: The future of poultry’, the Expo brought together stakeholders to explore opportunities across the poultry value chain, from production to processing and distribution. Mathoothe added the Expo was more than a gathering of farmers and suppliers, noting that it brought together ideas, capital, technology, markets and people whose combined efforts could shape the future of the poultry industry. He highlighted the poultry's potential to create business opportunities, support employment and strengthen economic resilience.
The assistant minister emphasised that discussions around poultry production should extend beyond farming to consider the wider opportunities available to entrepreneurs and businesses throughout the value chain. Equally, the theme, ‘From farm to fork’, underscores the importance of connecting agricultural production with processing, distribution and markets to create opportunities across the food supply chain. The Expo also provided a platform for industry participants to exchange ideas and explore how investment and technology can contribute to the development of the poultry sector. Mathoothe said Botswana needed to continue building a diversified and resilient economy, with sectors such as poultry offering opportunities for business ownership and job creation. His remarks called for collective efforts to develop economic sectors capable of contributing meaningfully to the country’s growth. The Expo also serves as a platform for dialogue on the future of the industry and opportunities available to those seeking to participate in the sector. The seventh edition reinforced the importance of sustained engagement and investment in agriculture as part of broader efforts to expand economic opportunities in Botswana.
