Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Moneedi Mhaladi, said they received a report of the incident on Friday at around 10am. Narrating the incident, Mhaladi said the victim had been communicating with the suspect on Facebook before they agreed to meet so that he could offer her spiritual assistance. The station head explained the woman then travelled from Gabane to meet the suspect, who allegedly took her to a bushy area between Block 9, Gaborone, and Tsolamosese, where the spiritual assistance was supposed to take place. “The victim said they met and went into the bush, where they found the suspect in the company of another man,” Mhaladi said. “She said the suspect then produced a knife, threatened her, and ordered her to undress before allegedly raping her.” He said that after the alleged rape, the two men reportedly took the victim’s bag containing P4,000 in cash and her cellphone before fleeing the scene. Mhaladi added the victim subsequently walked to Block 9, Gaborone, where she met police officers on patrol and reported the matter. “After receiving the report, the police took the victim to the crime scene. Whilst on their way, they met the two men on the road and arrested them,” he said.

The two suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. Mhaladi said the victim’s cellphone, bag, and cash were recovered from the suspects.
