The event is scheduled to start at 1pm. The initiative, which forms part of cultural diplomacy efforts, seeks to bring the two peoples closer together through the richness and diversity of traditional dishes, as well as Angolan music and dance. It places Angolan gastronomy at the centre of a cultural exchange experience, highlighting the flavours, products, traditions and knowledge that form part of Angola’s culinary identity.
The initiative also seeks to promote mutual understanding, cultural diversity and the strengthening of ties between Angola and Botswana.
More than a gastronomic experience, the festival aims to create a space for interaction and sharing, giving the Tswana people, as well as the different communities residing in Botswana, an opportunity to learn more about Angola through its cuisine.
Angola has a rich and diverse culinary tradition, deeply connected to the traditions of the country’s different regions. Its flavours reflect the cultural diversity across the country, where the use of local products and culinary knowledge are passed down from generation to generation.
During the event, some of the most iconic dishes of Angolan cuisine will be presented.
These include funje, dried-meat calulu, fish calulu, bean kizaca, muamba kizaca, chicken muamba, cabidela and meadungo, allowing the Tswana community and others to discover the different flavours and traditions that form part of Angola’s culinary heritage.
Through promoting this first edition of Culinary Diplomacy, the Embassy of Angola reinforces the role of culture as a means of bringing peoples closer together.
The initiative is based on the understanding that gastronomy can serve as a universal language, capable of creating opportunities for dialogue, sparking curiosity about other cultures, and bringing people together through shared experiences.
