Through that, he took his music from Francistown to wider African audiences and he is steadily building a name beyond home soil. Now, with a growing streaming audience and a string of successful collaborations behind him, the producer, DJ and recording artist is ready to push further with Woza Way Kay, a six-track EP or extended play dropping on October 9. Built around infectious rhythms, hard-hitting drums and unapologetic dancefloor energy, the project brings together Justin 99, ShaunStylist, Omit ST, Galectik and Sandza de Keyz, positioning Woza Way Kay as a release designed to move from the club to the timeline and everywhere in between.
The EP sees Way Kay lean into a more direct and energetic side of his artistry, with a sound centred on movement, energy and pure Amapiano enjoyment. It is a natural progression for an artist whose career has increasingly been defined by movement; between genres, collaborators and audiences. Born Mbaki “Way Kay” Mohako, he has established himself as a producer, DJ and recording artist with a sound drawing from Amapiano, Afro House, 3Step and modern African production. His experience in music production, DJing, sound engineering and artist development has helped shape a polished but energetic musical identity. His career gained significant momentum with his 2022 debut album Sa Bosigo, which earned recognition and cosigns from industry heavyweights including DJ Maphorisa, Mellow & Sleazy and DJ Cleo.
His production work on Piano Lase Southa for Lady Du, Blaxkie and FME DJZ further strengthened his profile within the wider African music scene. Since then, Way Kay has continued to build an impressive catalogue. His work includes the viral Amapiano remix of Freddie Gwala’s Amadamara, while his collaboration with HBK Live Act on Kwa Gae featuring By4 surpassed one million streams. Tjwala Bam Bafethu has also generated millions of views and secured placements on major playlists including Apple Music’s Mzansi Risers and Spotify’s Viral 50. The numbers behind his recent run tell their own story. Way Kay has surpassed 120,000 monthly Spotify listeners and accumulated more than 2.1 million Spotify streams. Ngiyaphuza Ngiyajabula has crossed one million plays on YouTube Music, while Ilanga is approaching 500,000 Spotify streams.
Woza Way Kay arrives with that momentum firmly behind it. The project is also designed with today's consumption habits in mind. Its records are positioned for TikTok and Instagram Reels, with dance challenges, crowd moments and social content forming part of the EP’s wider appeal.
That strategy makes sense for an artist whose music has already demonstrated an ability to travel across platforms and borders. Way Kay’s career has been built not only in the studio but behind the decks and in live spaces, with performances at venues and festivals in Botswana and South Africa. With a growing audience, a proven production pedigree and a project built for both the dancefloor and the digital age, Woza Way Kay feels less like another release and more like a statement of intent. On October 9, Woza Way Kay arrives as more than a new EP; it marks the arrival of an artist ready to claim his place on the wider African stage. Way Kay is not just carrying the sound of Botswana with him; he is turning it up for the world to hear.
