Kago Mosinyi, the chief operations officer, was thrust into the acting role until a ‘reshuffle’ in August, which saw BFA board member Bathusi Rathari appointed on an interim basis. This week, BFA president Tariq Babitseng said the position will soon be advertised, with the intention of having a substantive appointment in place by December.

The BFL is also taking its time to appoint Billy Sekgororoane’s successor. Sekgororoane lasted only four months in the role after being appointed in August 2025 to succeed Bennett Mamelodi. By December, the BFL was left without a chief executive officer following Sekgororoane’s abrupt departure.

Idah Moinisi has been acting chief executive since January, with no signs of an immediate full-time appointment. BFL chairperson, Sipho Showa, said the decision to delay the appointment of a substantive CEO was strategic.

“There are no delays. The (BFL) board has taken a strategic posture to have an acting CEO for the time being. The role will be filled substantively at the right time. Meanwhile, the secretariat is functioning well with appropriate support from the board,” he explained.

However, sources close to developments within the BFL indicate that factional fighting is impeding progress.

“You find that a certain faction wants its candidate to be favoured, then next, another faction forwards its preferred candidate. The leadership is taking a cautious approach and wants to hire the right person for the job,” the source said.
