This week, there were reports that Tsholofelo Sethoko, the association’s head of women’s football, had been appointed as the acting technical director.
“We have no acting TD,” the BFA told MmegiSport in response to inquiries on Thursday.
The BFA indicated that it is actively looking to fill the post, which was left vacant following the recent departure of Kaelo ‘Wire’ Kaelo, who was redeployed as head of coaching and research.
The association is reportedly considering using its existing bilateral arrangements with federations in Europe, Africa, and Asia to scout for a candidate abroad. It would be similar to an arrangement the BFA previously had when German technical expert Dr Carolin Braun arrived in the country in 2019 to provide technical expertise.
Braun was seconded to Botswana through the German Foreign Office, in collaboration with the German Olympic Sports Confederation. It is understood that the BFA is exploring a similar arrangement, particularly with international federations whose technical development goals align with those of the association.
“The BFA will be looking at agreements with various federations that can assist with that position. The BFA wants to overhaul the whole system, and the appointment should be in place as soon as possible,” a source said.
