The victim, a resident of Madiba Ward at the same village, reportedly lost the money after the trio allegedly posed as police officers and accused him of selling marijuana. Serowe Police Station commander, Superintendent Akimo Mlazie, said the suspects approached the victim at the farm and claimed to have received a tip-off that he was selling daga. Mlazie explained the trio allegedly demanded to search the victim's house, where they found his savings.

They subsequently seized the P50,000, claiming they suspected it to be proceeds of crime. 'The victim said he had been receiving his salary and saving the money because he wanted to do something with it once he had accumulated a certain amount,” he said when confirming the incident. “After taking the money, the suspects left, claiming it was part of their investigations. He said he did not ask them for any proof to confirm that they were police officers.' According to Mlazie, the suspects walked into the farm after leaving their vehicle, a Honda Fit, parked outside the premises. However, the victim could not establish the vehicle's registration number.

Mlazie has since urged members of the public to remain vigilant and always demand identification from anyone claiming to be a police officer before allowing them to conduct searches or other police-related activities. 'I am pleading with members of the public to always ask for police identity cards before believing or allowing people to do anything whilst claiming to be police officers,' he advised.
