The app has also successfully onboarded over 41 establishments into the app in a bid to enhance customer convenience.

Wanzy, which began commercial operations in May 2025, has attracted more than 3,000 active customers, according to figures released at its official launch by the Botswana Digital and Innovation Hub (BDIH) this week. Repeat customers account for 72% of orders, a sign that users are returning after their first purchase.

More than P2 million has passed through the platform. That figure represents the value of transactions handled by Wanzy, not revenue earned by the company.

The app connects customers to restaurants and shops selling groceries, pharmaceuticals, liquor and other everyday products. It handles ordering and payments, provides delivery tracking and gives participating businesses access to delivery services without running their own fleets.

Wanzy is a local innovative delivery app founded by two young Batswana operators, Again Oabile and Tshiamo Kolanyane.

Speaking during the launch of the app in Gaborone last week, BDIH chief executive officer Kabo Phetlhu said the platform’s progress showed the challenge facing local technology ventures once they move beyond product development.

“I must say that the commercialisation step is often the hardest, because it is one thing to build something that works. It is another to build something the market will pay for, trust, and return to.”

Phetlhu said Wanzy had emerged from its founders’ observation that local businesses needed a faster route to customers whilst shoppers wanted greater convenience. BDIH supported the company through incubation, mentorship, and commercialisation programmes.

“The numbers tell the story of momentum. In its first year, Wanzy has channelled more than P2 million through 41 local businesses in Greater Gaborone, generating average monthly revenue of over P308,000,” he said.

The launch figures show that Wanzy has found customers and merchants in its first market. Its next challenge is to expand beyond Greater Gaborone whilst keeping deliveries reliable and turning the orders it handles into a sustainable business.
