Great performances will pull desired results - Kowa

This comes after Rollers recorded an emphatic 3-0 win over Extension Gunners in an exciting FNB Premiership played at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The result sealed Rollers’ dominance over the Peleng giants over the years.

Rollers have now won a total of 16 games in the last 20 encounters with Gunners with four remaining games ending in stalemate. The Blues have now scored 45 goals in the two’s encounters with Gunners finding the back of the net 14 times.

While he is happy with the result, Kowa said what should come as a first priority is good performance on the field before anything else.

He said a great performance will automatically bring desired results.

“Results are important but for now we must look at our performance. And our first half performance today, for me was total dismal. It was not what I expected, it was not what I wished for,” Kowa said after the match.

“I told them (players) at halftime that we need to change our attitude. If you are coming into the games thinking that because the other guy got the red card and it is going to be easy, you are going to lose the game you should not have lost.”

Kowa said the next step going forward is to keep grinding for a good performance.

“If you deliver a performance that is good, it will pull the results,” he added. The match looked evenly contested until the 16th minute when Gunners goalkeeper, Kabelo Dambe, received his marching orders after committing a foul on the edge of the box.

The referee deemed Dambe to have denied Rollers a clear goal scoring opportunity and did not hesitate to issue a straight red card, leaving Gunners with 10 men.

However, the Peleng giants held on until the halftime break.

Eight minutes into the second half, Rollers midfielder, Marcell Papama put his side in front with a fine strike from outside the box.

The Namibian midfielder completed his brace in the 82nd minute with another clinical finish following a good counter attack and a final good pass by substitute, Thembelani Majingo.

Onkarabile Ratanang put the final nail in the 88th minute from a freekick to send Rollers supporters into wild celebrations.

For his part, Gunners head coach, Paradzayi Mandivenga said they had everything in control until the “turning point of the match” when Dambe was sent off early in the game.

“Kabelo Dambe is a pillar of strength at the back, so somehow we became shaky because of that red card. So when we thought we were trying to get back into the game, Tower (Kesekile) got injured and we were forced to take him out. So two of our most experienced players at the back are out. Our game plan then changed,” Mandivenga said in a post match interview.

He noted that they had wanted to hold on until probably 75 minutes but conceded in the critical time.
