Gunners look to break hoodoo against Rollers

Rollers have been the dominant side between the two and will be hoping to extend their long unbeaten run against the Peleng giants.

In the last 19 clashes, Rollers are yet to taste defeat against Gunners. Four matches have ended in draws, with Rollers winning the remaining 15 encounters.

Rollers have scored 42 goals in the process, with Gunners finding the back of the net 14 times.

Their last encounter was in February this year, with Rollers recording a 2-1 win. A lot has happened both on and off the field recently, making Sunday’s encounter even more unpredictable.

For Gunners, the off-field shenanigans that usually follow them around appear to be a thing of the past.

Since handing over the management of the club to DC Tours, the Peleng giants have been stable both on and off the field, with no reports of the financial struggles that have been part and parcel of the club for years.

The results on the field are also coming out positively, with Gunners currently holding a 100% record in the league this season.

The Lobatse side will be hoping that they finally break the hoodoo against Rollers this Sunday to maintain their winning streak this season.

Gunners have won their first two matches against favourites Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Nico United.

Led by former goalkeeper, Paradzayi Mandivenga, Gunners have shown defensive discipline and currently hold, together with Sua Flamingoes and Police XI, the best defensive record after two rounds of matches.

The arrival of experienced goalkeeper, Kabelo Dambe, has given the Peleng giants shape at the back. He will be facing his long-time employers, Rollers, for the first time since joining Gunners at the start of the season.

Dambe was amongst the last key players, together with Simisane Mathumo, to leave Rollers during the mass exodus that rocked the club at the end of last season.

Rollers have had one of their most disappointing starts to the season. At the centre of their poor start was the FIFA transfer ban that saw them kick-start the season with only about seven of their eligible players.

They are currently waiting to hear what action the league prosecutor will take after their match against Jwaneng Galaxy was called off in the first half because they did not have a sufficient number of players on the field.

However, the ban has since been lifted, paving the way for the registration of new players. Their second game ended in a 1-1 draw away to Morupule Wanderers last weekend.

Amongst the new signings is former Gaborone United (GU) striker Molaodi ‘Danger’ Tlhalefang, who is expected to lead the attack on Sunday.

Rollers are currently pursuing the return of former head coach Tor Thodesen to lead the team once again after helping them secure their status in the league last season. Assistant coach, Oupa Kowa, is currently drilling the team on an interim basis.

Meanwhile, Police XI will take on Orapa United tomorrow at the GU Stadium, whilst Sua Flamingoes host Enesia at Sowa Town. The rest of this weekend’s fixtures have been postponed to pave the way for the Zebras camp.
