Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the vehicle attempted to overtake another car and struck the man and toddler.

Ramotswa Police Station commander, Superintendent James Moikothai, said the 39-year-old driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Fortunately, the driver was later arrested after abandoning his vehicle at the scene, Moikothai added.

“The deceased had sustained serious head injuries and was certified dead by doctors upon arrival at Bamalete Lutheran Hospital,” he said. The toddler survived the incident, sustaining minor bruises on the face and arm.

Police investigations into the accident are continuing.
