No.13 District Traffic Officer, Superintendent Obonetse Matshego, stated the accident occurred along A12 Road, which connects Gaborone and Molepolole.
He said the woman sustained serious head injuries and was certified dead upon arrival at Julia Molefe Clinic in Gaborone.
The vehicle was driven by a 38-year-old man who has since been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations into the accident continue.
“Accidents involving pedestrians remain a concern in Greater Gaborone,” Matshego said.
“... I am pleading with motorists to understand that they use the road together with pedestrians and should be cautious of each other at all times.”
He added it was concerning that pedestrians continue to lose their lives on the roads despite ongoing efforts to sensitise both motorists and pedestrians about road safety.
Matshego urged road users to exercise greater caution and remain vigilant at all times to help reduce pedestrian-related road fatalities.
