The event kicks off tomorrow, with GIMC Fitness at the GICC Marquee, followed by the GIMC jazz festival at Bojanala Waterfront on Saturday. Headlining the jazz showcase is legendary American R&B singer Karyn White, who will perform in Botswana for the first time.
White, who arrived earlier this week, has been enjoying her time in Botswana and she is keen to make her debut performance a memorable one. She has also invited local fans to help shape her set by sharing the songs from her catalogue they would most like to hear.
“I want to make sure that this set list is really the songs that you guys want to hear, that you remember, take you back to that time,” she said.
The programme continues on Sunday with a Champagne Picnic at Wagga Gardenex, a poetry night at Botswana Craft on Wednesday, stand-up comedy at Avani on Thursday and a Clap and Tap session at Boipuso Hall next Friday.
The Saturday musical lineup also features Ezra Neethings, Sereetsi and the Natives, South African sensation Amanda Black, Han-C, Bats Matash, DJ Lefatshe and others.
For organiser, Thapelo 'Fish' Pabalinga, the variety reflects the different ways people connect with culture.
“Human beings naturally like and appreciate different things. There are those that like comedy. There are those that like jazz,” he said.
With something for almost every cultural taste, GIMC promises a week of shared experiences and celebration. As Fish put it: “In any one year, we own a week.”
