Statistics Botswana figures released recently indicate that aircraft movements in the first quarter of the year reached 14,667 from 13,745 in the prior corresponding period. While on a quarter by quarter basis, both passenger volumes and movements in the first quarter were down on the fourth quarter of last year, analysts warn against comparing the two periods directly.
Fourth quarter trends in Botswana and elsewhere is heavily influenced by festive season travel, while the first quarter is usually the quietest of the four each year. According to Statistics Botswana figures, in the first quarter, Sir Seretse Khama International maintained its traditional dominance in terms of passenger volumes, accounting for 54% of total passengers.
Maun International, meanwhile, also maintained its traditional dominance as the country’s busiest airport, with 9,984 aircraft movements in the first quarter of 68% of the total.
