The Monitor has learnt that the young man had recently returned from visiting his girlfriend at Tewane accompanied by a friend. On their journey home, the deceased allegedly told his friend that he was not feeling well and suspected that his girlfriend might have infected him with an STI. He allegedly told his friend, 'Ke belaela ngwanyana yo a ntomile I am not well at all.' It is reported that the two later went to a local ground to play football. After the game, they returned home, where the deceased reportedly went into his bedroom.

His friend then got concerned after the departed had spent a considerable amount of time in the room and allegedly went to check on him. The friend was reportedly shocked to find the young man hanging from the roof rafters. Palapye Police Station commander, Superintendent Koziba Phuluweni, confirmed that police are investigating the suspected suicide. He said they were alerted and immediately responded to the scene before taking the deceased to Palapye Primary Hospital, where he was certified dead by doctors on arrival.

“The young man had used a rope to commit suicide. Investigations into the matter are ongoing as we await post-mortem results,” Phuluweni added. Police have not confirmed whether the young man had contracted any STI, and the circumstances surrounding his fears remain subject to investigation and medical findings.
