The senior military officer, 53, who was recently admitted to the Bokamoso Private Hospital, has since been discharged after spending about a week receiving medical treatment. According to law enforcement officers, the victim told investigators that the incident occurred after he had spent the night drinking alcohol in Block 6, Gaborone. He narrated that he later offered a lift to a man he didn't know. Mogoditshane Police Station acting commander, Superintendent Mompoloki Ramaphoi, revealed the commissioned officer has recovered sufficiently and is now able to speak. Ramaphoi explained that the soldier told the police that he didn't know the man he offered a lift to and was unaware of what prompted him to attack him.
“He alleged that whilst they were travelling from Block 6 heading to Mogoditshane, when they reached Pula Spar Mall, the man attacked and injured him, but he didn't steal anything from him,” he said. “He said it was his first time seeing the man and doesn't know why he attacked him,” Ramaphoi added. Following the attack a week ago, the officer reportedly sought medical attention at the Mogoditshane BDF Clinic at around 5am. Upon arriving there it was quickly established the senior officer was unable to speak, with his throat believed to have been slashed with a sharp object.
He was subsequently transferred to Bokamoso Private Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, and the identity of the alleged assailant remains unknown.
