The emphatic victory capped a memorable 10th anniversary year for the Gaborone-based club.

It also provides a glimpse of what could be expected from the latest entrants into the Southern Stream, who are already setting their sights beyond merely surviving in the national league.

Mazzottie were one of the four teams that contested the DTCB national championship finale, having navigated their way through the block playoffs to reach the national stage.

From the first whistle, they looked the more ambitious side, taking the game to Dunamis & Daughters with aggressive attacking play.

The Mares duo of Leungo Senwelo and Tshegofatso Mosotho proved particularly difficult for the opposition defence to contain as Mazzottie repeatedly threatened in the final third.

Dunamis & Daughters, however, survived the early pressure and managed to keep the score level for almost the entire opening half. The deadlock was finally broken in the 40th minute when Senwelo won a free kick just outside the box.

The forward dusted herself off before taking the responsibility herself, curling a superb effort over the wall and into the top corner to give Mazzottie the lead.

The 1-0 advantage remained intact until the break, but Dunamis' resistance was quickly swept aside after the restart. Mazzottie doubled their lead in the 47th minute following a corner kick.

The initial header struck the post, but California Sarego reacted quickest to the rebound, firing home from close range to make it 2-0. Senwelo then completed her brace seven minutes later.

A long ball from the Mazzottie defence found the forward in space and she showed composure to get between two markers before beating the goalkeeper with a low drive into the corner for 3-0.

With the game increasingly slipping away from Dunamis & Daughters, Mazzottie continued to dominate possession and territory.

The fourth goal arrived in the 73rd minute when Sarego delivered a low cross into the box and Mosotho applied the finishing touch to complete a well-worked team move. Mazzottie needed only a minute to add another.

They won possession immediately after the restart and broke forward with pace, with Gosaitse Aleck finishing the counter-attack with a powerful effort to make it 5-0.

Substitute Lame Mmane then joined the scoring party in the 77th minute, meeting Senwelo's corner to extend the lead to six.

Mosotho completed the rout in the 83rd minute when she rose to head home another Senwelo corner, sealing a 7-0 victory.

Dunamis & Daughters failed to register an attempt at goal throughout the contest as Mazzottie's superiority was reflected both in the scoreline and their control of the match.

For Mazzotie FC head coach, Eric Bolotsang, however, the victory is more significant for what it says about Mazzottie's future than the trophy itself.

The coach believes the team is still rebuilding, but insists the club's ambitions are bigger than simply making up the numbers in the Southern Stream.

“You can see from the performance that we are a team on a rebuild and we will not be going to the national league to compete but to challenge,” he said.

The victory also gave Mazzottie a fitting way to celebrate their 10th anniversary, with Bolotsang praising the players for responding well to the demands of the final.

“Our team celebrates 10 years anniversary this year and to celebrate that milestone with an achievement of this magnitude, you cannot ask much from the players.

“We played well as a team, we responded well and there were moments where they posed a threat, they were aggressive. I liked how we responded and kept the shape as a team,” he added.

Mazzottie's challenge now shifts from championship celebrations to the Southern Stream, where their performances in the DTCB competition have raised expectations ahead of their league campaign.
