Magosi’s coach, Miguel Corral Torreira, however, insists the results are only part of a bigger rebuilding process.

Chiefs lifted the SunBet Charity Cup on Saturday after beating GU by 2-1 score, adding another morale-boosting victory to their recent success over Gaborone giants at the Jwaneng Mine GM Fiesta.

Defender, Benson Mosokobanji opened the scoring just before halftime before Omphile Vissagie added the second after the break to hand the Kgatleng side the trophy.

GU pulled one back through Ivan Kamberipa, but Chiefs held on to claim victory.

The back-to-back victories have fuelled belief that Chiefs have assembled a side capable of challenging strongly when the league campaign begins.

Miguel, however, was cautious not to read too much into the results, saying the priority remains building a competitive team.

“This was a very positive test for us, but it is only pre-season. We are building a strong team and we have to be ready to compete in the league,” he said.

With two weeks remaining before the start of the campaign, the Chiefs coach believes there is still enough time to sharpen his squad.

“We have two weeks more to prepare our team but so far so good. Looking at the pitch, I think my team played really well from the beginning until the end. “I am satisfied with the squad I have and I believe we will be ready to compete this season,” Miguel added.

For GU coach Sean Conor, the defeat is not a reason for alarm despite his side suffering successive losses to Chiefs during pre-season.

“Hundred percent, we will surely be back to our best. It is still early, this is just a pre-season,” Conor said.

The GU coach admitted that his players were disappointed after failing to win the Charity Cup, but said the matches have provided valuable lessons ahead of the new season.

“We wanted to win the trophy, which we didn’t do, but we are still building and we learn something new about our players and the team. Today we did that,” he added.

Conor felt GU had been the better side for long periods of the match, but costly defensive lapses proved decisive.

“I think we were the better team in the first half and the better team for most of the second half. I think we defended badly on two occasions, one from a corner kick and one from a cross,” he said.

The coach identified defending high balls, remaining composed under pressure and adding more physical presence in attack as areas requiring attention.
