Block champions set for national showdown

City Kings FC, Dunamis and Daughters FC, Gantsi United, and Mazottie FC have already secured their places in next season’s National Women’s First Division after emerging as champions of their respective regional leagues before going on to conquer the block playoffs. Now, the quartet has a chance to crown their breakthrough campaigns with the biggest prize of all: the national championship title.

The four sides represent the Northern, Eastern, Western, and Southern blocks respectively and have earned their places amongst the final four after coming through the regional competitions and subsequently finishing top of their respective block playoffs.

For City Kings, success in the Northern Block has capped an impressive regional campaign and earned the club an opportunity to step into the national spotlight.

The Gumare-based side has been one of the teams on the rise in the past few seasons, and now they have a chance to stake a claim amongst the country's leading sides.

Dunamis and Daughters FC have done the same from the Eastern Block. At the same time, Gantsi United emerged as the Western Block's representatives after negotiating their way through the regional and block stages.

Mazottie FC complete the quartet after dominating the Southern Block. The Gaborone side showed its strength during the block playoffs, opening with a convincing 5-1 victory over Makufa Sporting Club before edging hosts Maletamotse SC 1-0 to finish top and secure their place in the national championship.

The significance of Saturday's showdown goes beyond the trophy. All four clubs will be making their debut in the National Women's First Division next season, with the teams set to compete in the Northern and Southern streams.

Their performances this season have therefore already secured them a place in Botswana's expanding national women's football structure.

The championship offers them an opportunity to announce themselves in style before embarking on their first national league campaign.

For the four clubs, it has been a journey of progression: regional champions, block champions, and now national title contenders. But the level of competition will rise sharply on Saturday.

The semi-finals are scheduled for 8am at Lekidi Football Grounds, with the two winners advancing to the grand final later in the day. The third-place play-off kicks off at 1:30pm at Royal Aria Stadium, before the main event gets underway at 4pm at the same venue.

The championship final promises to be a fitting conclusion to a tournament that has brought together the best performers from Botswana's regional women's football competitions.
