The senior Botswana Defence Force (BDF) officer reportedly sought medical attention at the Mogoditshane BDF Clinic on Saturday, where the matter was reported to the police at around 5am.

He was subsequently transferred to Bokamoso Private Hospital, where he remains hospitalised in a critical condition. Police are yet to establish what led to the alleged attack, who was responsible, and where the incident occurred.

Mogoditshane Police Station acting commander, Superintendent Mompoloki Ramaphoi, said investigators were currently unable to obtain a statement from the victim because of the severity of his injuries.

“We do not know who slashed his throat. We are hoping for his recovery since he cannot speak at this time so that he can narrate what happened,” Ramaphoi said.

He added that investigations into the unlawful wounding case were ongoing, with detectives working to establish where the officer was before the alleged attack and who he was last seen with. “Investigations into the unlawful wounding case are ongoing to establish where and who he was last seen with,” Ramaphoi said.

Police have appealed for information that could assist them in piecing together the circumstances surrounding the attack.

For now, investigators are hoping that the officer’s recovery will enable him to shed light on the events leading to the violent assault.
