No.13 District Traffic Officer, Superintendent Obonetse Matshego, said the traffic lights were operational at the time of the crash, raising suspicion that one of the drivers may have failed to obey the traffic signals.
“It was a truck, even though it was just a head and was not pulling trailers,” he explained.
“The Toyota Wish, which was driven by a 54-year-old woman, had three people on board: the deceased, the driver, and another female passenger, who escaped with minor injuries.”
According to Matshego, the driver sustained head injuries and complained of body pains.
She was subsequently admitted to Bokamoso Private Hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the truck driver who was alone escaped the accident uninjured. Matshego said investigations were still underway to establish the exact circumstances leading to the collision.
He appealed to motorists to exercise caution on the roads by obeying traffic lights and road signs, warning that reckless driving can have devastating consequences.
“Roads cannot stop accidents, but responsible drivers can do so if they apply safety at all times,” he said.
Matshego further reminded motorists that the accident occurred on a three-lane road, where drivers are expected to understand and follow lane discipline.
“Drivers should be cautious at all times, apply safety, and not insist on their right of way to avoid accidents that could lead to deaths.”
