The pair of Baoleofi Mosiiwa and Elton Alias were defeated 2-0 by Angola’s team comprising Eduardo Helio and Carlos Muondo. The local duo of Jack Sekao and George Chiswaniso bowed out of the competition following a 2-0 loss to South Africa.
However, the quarter-final loss does not eliminate Chiswaniso and Sekao from contention for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and World Championship qualification, officials revealed.
Vice President for Beach Volleyball for Botswana Volleyball Federation, Pogiso Osupile, explained the pair had already qualified for the CAVB Continental Championships in Alexandra in August 17-23, by virtue of their Zone VI ranking.
He said although both Botswana teams fell in the quarter-finals, they showed great determination throughout the tournament, with both pairs advancing from the group stages unbeaten to reach the last eight.
“The Swakopmund event should instead be viewed as an important preparations tournament,” Osupile told Sport Monitor.
“It exposed areas that need improvement before the higher-stakes continental championship. If the team and coaching staff address these weaknesses, they will be better prepared to challenge Africa’s strongest teams.”
During the group stages, Mosiiwa and Alias recorded a straight sets victory of 20 over Namibia (21-13, 21-10). Sekao and Chiswaniso also registered straight-sets victory of 2-0 (21-11, 21-10).
Mosiiwa and Alias qualified for the quarter-final after winning their final group stage match against South Africa with straight-sets of 2-0 (21-8, 21-4).
Sekao and Chiswaniso followed suit by winning all their matches without dropping a single set, to also qualify for the quarter-final.
