The offering, PosoInsure Parcel Insurance, gives individuals and businesses an affordable way to protect the value of eligible parcels sent through the BotswanaPost courier network. Officials said unlike standard courier services, which generally compensate customers only for shipping costs, the solution reimburses customers for the insured value of eligible items. Cover for the product, developed by PosoInsure in partnership with InsureGuard, begins when the insured parcel is collected and continues until final delivery, including temporary storage during transit for up to 96 hours.
The state-owned postal service company said customers can insure parcels valued up to P30,000 at a standard premium rate of three percent of the sum insured, while higher-value items can be accommodated through individual quotations. It stated that customers also continue to benefit from BotswanaPost's parcel tracking, proof of delivery and SMS notifications. PosoInsure Principal Officer, Gorata Kewakae, said the launch supports the BotswanaPost’s continued transformation into an integrated provider of logistics, financial, digital and insurance solutions. She added that the launch reflects the group's commitment to innovation, collaboration, and developing customer-centric solutions that respond to the evolving needs of Batswana.
“As part of the BotswanaPost group ecosystem, PosoInsure complements BotswanaPost's trusted delivery network by ensuring customers not only move their parcels with confidence but also protect the value of what they are sending,” Kewakae said. “Parcel Insurance reinforces our vision of making insurance more accessible, relevant, and responsive while giving individuals and businesses greater peace of mind every time they send something valuable.' InsureGuard Managing Director, BoipeloKupe, emphasized the importance of innovation through collaboration, stating: 'Rather than asking customers to come to insurers, we are embedding insurance into services people already use every day. “When someone sends a parcel through Botswana Post, they now have an opportunity to protect that parcel immediately, conveniently, and affordably. This is insurance meeting customers where they are.'
The policy covers accidental loss, theft and damage during transit, subject to the policy terms and conditions. Exclusions include cash, currency, physical coins, negotiable financial instruments, stamps and other specified items. Customers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the policy wording to understand the full scope of cover.
